THE DEVELOPMENT OF KÜNSTLERHAUS6 AT VITOS RHEINGAU

July 30, 2026 - 7:00 p.m.

Künstlerhaus6 at the Vitos Rheingau psychiatric center is a unique space for artistic creation and community. What began in 1996 as a social therapy program now comprises four studios where people with and without experience of mental health challenges engage in ongoing artistic work.

Despite its remote location in the Rheingau region, Künstlerhaus6 boasts an impressive exhibition history: In more than sixty exhibitions, the works created here have been shown at renowned art venues in Germany and abroad, including the Museum Marta Herford, the Psychiatric Museum in Bern, the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, the documenta-Halle in Kassel, and the Kunstquartier Bethanien in Berlin. Since 2004, Künstlerhaus6 has also stood for a lived practice of inclusion that combats exclusion and stigmatization.

The painter Helmut Mair is the director and co-founder of the open art studio. Since 2025, director Stella Tinbergen has been documenting the activities in and around Vitos Rheingau’s studio. Together, they offer insights into the history of the studio as well as the making of the documentary film.

Helmut Mair studied, among other things, Fine Arts at the Mainz Academy of Fine Arts and was a master student of Prof. Klaus Vogelgesang.

Stella Tinbergen is a filmmaker specializing in documentary film and artist portraits. She has received numerous awards, including the Robert Geisendörfer Prize and the Christa Moering Fellowship from the City of Wiesbaden.

Sara Nadzak, a pianist trained in Bosnia, has won numerous awards at international youth competitions and is one of the protagonists of Stella Tinbergen’s current film about the Künstlerhaus6.
