Opening of the exhibition: Thu 20 March 2025, 7:00 pm
With the art installation ΦΘΟΡΡΑ, developed as part of a scholarship for the Bellevue-Saal, Christos Voutichtis presents an impressive interdisciplinary project that makes the catastrophes of our time tangible in a unique way. In a combination of installation, text and sound, the work takes a critical look at the increasingly unstable unstable reality of our epoch, in which ecological, political and economic crises ecological, political and economic crises are increasingly merging into a comprehensive polycrisis.
The interdisciplinary installation uses the threat of earthquakes as a metaphor for the tremors of our time. The centrepiece of the of the installation is a network of microcontrollers that registers earthquake data in real earthquake data in real time and makes these tangible as sound phenomena in space. The data is converted into radial movements, which drive two large granite millstones whose friction is recorded and friction is recorded and amplified by contact microphones. The resulting sounds create an atmosphere that directly connects the visitor with the confronts the visitor directly with the shocks and uncertainties of the present day. The installation encourages a critical discourse that goes beyond the spectacle of the apocalypse beyond the spectacle of the apocalypse and questions the deeper meaning of the crises of our time.
